The City of Darwin hosted the inaugural Darwin International Dragon Boat Festival in June 2023. It brought together teams from Australia and China and international delegations from Indonesia and Timor-Leste. The event celebrated the history of Chinese in Australia and provided a platform for communities to interact and learn from each other. The same weekend, Charles Darwin University hosted a student trip to Litchfield National Park, part of its Indigenous cultural immersion program that provides Chinese international students with opportunities to learn about Indigenous cultures and languages. These two grants, supported by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, acknowledge the ongoing contributions of Chinese to Australia and the importance of fostering greater understanding across cultures.
