Australian Nobel Laureate Professor Barry Marshall famously ingested a concoction of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) to prove his hypothesis that the bacteria were a leading cause of gastric ulcers and cancer.
Today, Professor Marshall and his team at The Marshall Centre are training Chinese clinicians and academics to culture, sequence and analyse strains of H. pylori through the Australia-China Helicobacter Fellowship, imparting critical knowledge to diagnose and treat gastrointestinal issues in their early stages.
