The Australian Government is now in a caretaker period in advance of the forthcoming election. Until a new government is sworn in, government operations are conducted in accordance with the caretaker conventions.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong has announced the eighth Australia-China High Level Dialogue will be held on 16 August in Adelaide. 

Former Trade Minister, the Hon Dr Craig Emerson will co-chair the Dialogue as head of the Australian delegation.  Of the Dialogue’s significance, Dr Emerson said “the Dialogue’s resumption last September in Beijing signaled progress in the stabilization of Australia’s relationship with China. This year’s Dialogue is an opportunity to generate more momentum. I am proud once again to lead the Australian delegation and help take forward our relationship with China”.

Mr Gary Cowan, CEO of the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations said “the Foundation is pleased to be co-hosting this year’s Dialogue and looks forward to welcoming delegates to Adelaide.  There is no substitute for regular, open and direct dialogue”

The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations will co-host the 8th Australia-China High Level Dialogue with the Chinese People’s Institute for Foreign Affairs.
