THE OPPORTUNITY
Consistent with the Government’s Indigenous Diplomacy and Foreign Policy Agenda, the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations is committed to embedding First Nations Australians perspectives in the Foundation’s work. To support this, the Foundation will host an Indigenous student to undertake a paid internship at its Sydney headquarters.
This opportunity will strengthen the Foundation’s commitment to reconciliation and help foster the next generation of Indigenous diplomats. The exact length and structure of the internship will be negotiated with the successful candidate to complement their university schedule. It is expected to occur between June and October.
BACKGROUND
The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, is a national platform that engages government, business and communities to support and find ways to engage constructively with China, across greater China and to involve our diverse stakeholders and communities. The Foundation is collaborative and innovative in nature, working across all business sectors, levels of government and communities to build new and strengthen existing partnerships, in line with the national interest. Priority sectors for engagement include climate change, health & ageing, culture and the arts and business.
The Foundation is committed to promoting Australia’s rich First Nations history and cultures to Greater China and Chinese-Australian communities through its grants and program activities.
ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible for this opportunity you must be an Indigenous Australian studying a tertiary degree and living in Sydney.
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate will have an interest in the Australian public service and the Australian Government foreign policy agenda. You will have consistent grades in your tertiary studies and be an effective team player. You will have effective communication and interpersonal skills and sound judgement. We expect you to use your knowledge and skills to contribute innovatively to Foundation outcomes, while identifying risk. You will demonstrate the ability to adhere to Australian Public Service values.
KEY DUTIES
- Support the management of grants and foundation programs
- Assist with the Foundation's social-media work including Facebook and Linkedin
- Undertake research tasks as directed
- Take notes at internal and external meetings and attend public events as directed
- Provide support to event management including the foundation's major events
- Assist with coordinating meetings, events and programs
- Promote understanding among Foundation staff of Indigenous perspectives
- Other duties as directed
